Sale & Swap 2009 Part 1
Renaissance Sparc 2 25 x 25

           Saitek Renaissance Sparc

Renaissance Sparc 4 15 x 15
Renaissance Sparc 5 15 x 15
Renaissance Sparc 1 20 x 20

The Renaissance Sparc is one of the most sought after of chess computers.  The combination of a strong program, beautiful board, superb features, and comparitive rarity add up to a very desirable players and collectors machine. Around 1000 Euros is a normal price on eBay, where they appear infrequently.

Dan & Kathe Spracklen wrote the Sparc program. Currently on Wiki its rating stands at 2225 Elo, but the Sparc is stronger at Tournament time limits (eg 40 moves in 2 hours). There is a
300,000 positions opening book.

The Renaissance Sparc you see here is in excellent condition and perfect working order.

Included in the offer is the Renaissance board, Sparc module, original pieces in the wooden box, power supply, copy manuals in English or German. All as shown in the photographs.

Rather than sell it I would really prefer a swap for one of the early (1977-1984) chess computers that I do not have yet. For instance I am looking for a Fidelity Elite Privat and Mephisto Excalibur. Please contact me if you have an idea for a fair swap.

If there are no suitable swaps proposed then I would invite offers above £800.

Mephisto Nigel Short 1 25 x 26
Mephisto Nigel Short 2 25 x 25

     Mephisto Nigel Short

Another chess computer from my Rare section following the arrival of a second one from Australia.

You can read about the Mephisto Nigel Short elsewhere on this website. This one is in excellent condition and it is functioning perfectly.

This Mephisto model has yet to be tested by Schachcomputer.info or given a rating on Wiki, but the Selective Search rating is 1985 Elo.

Included in the offer is a manual in English, the piece sets you see,  and an adaptor. Also the box which looks like it was originally sold with the Nigel Short, but is a Mephisto Berlin box with some stickers added.

Price  -  £200        GONE. SWAPPED

However rather than a sale I would prefer a swap for one of the early (1977-1986) chess computers that I do not have. Let me know if you have an idea for a fair swap.

    Novag Constellation Expert

The Novag Constellation Expert (model 853) dates from 1985. It was nicknamed “The Monster” possibly because of it’s tendency to give club players a good thrashing. Until then league players tended to hold chess computers in some contempt, but all that was changing, first with  the Super Constellation, then with the Novag’s first auto sensory wood board the Constellation Expert.

This Expert is probably running at 5 MHz. It has 64K ROM,  4K RAM, a David Kittinger program and 22,000 ply opening book. Current Selective Search rating is 1843 Elo. It measures 47 x 40 cm.

The board itself is in beautiful condition. It is fully working, with no faults that I am aware of.

It is for sale as shown in the photographs with a set of Fidelity Elite A/S chess pieces, copy manual in English and a power adaptor.

Novag Super Forte 1 20 x 20
Novag Super Forte 2 20 x 20

            Novag Super Forte

A Novag Super Forte A, 5 MHz version (model 879), which dates from 1987. This one is in very good condition. It comes with the pieces shown, the original Novag power supply, and manuals in English and French.

It is in full working order, and can be used with the power supply or 6 “C” batteries. It is a bit fussy about old batteries.

The chess computer features a strong David Kittinger program with a mass of options. It has a current rating on Wiki of 1971 Elo.

Price  -  £125             SOLD

This is the best specified of the Fidelity Designer models released in 1988. They were named the 1500, 2000 and 2100. These numbers relate to their claimed Elo ratings at the time. The 2000 and 2100 Designers came either with or without a LCD display. The 1500 Designer, with or without a video coaching tape. So six models, two with the display.

In my experience the 2100 Display (model 6106) is the most sought after and hardest to find of the six.

This one is fully working and in very good condition. It comes with the box, original pieces and manual, and works with four “AA” batteries. It also has a power input if you have a suitable Fidelity or universal adaptor.

It’s current rating on Wiki is 1911 Elo.

Fidelity Sensory 12

Fidelity Sensory 12 1 30 x 31

The Fidelity Sensory 12 dates from 1984. This is the SC 12 model with the Dan & Kathe Spracklen Budapest program running at 3 MHz. Which gives it a current  Wiki rating of 1680 Elo.

The board is in very good condition, although there is a scratch close to a3 which is shown in the photo.

The Sensory 12 is to be sold with the pieces shown, copy manual in English and power adaptor (USA type).

World Champion in 1981. It has a 6502 chip running at 2 MHz, 32K of ROM and 16K RAM and as far as can be determined with the passing of the years was mainly programmed by Mark Taylor and David Broughton. It currently has a Wiki rating of 1530 Elo.

This Mark V is a German model with an English program module. It comes with a copy of the full manual in English or German. The power supply is not included so if you are interested please make sure that you have access to a Mark V or VI power supply for it.

It is fully working with an above average LCD chessboard, and it is in very good condition.

                    Mephisto Exclusive MMV

Mephisto Exclusive MMV 1 30 x 30

MMV modules in an Exclusive board.

Released in 1990 the MMV was programmed by Dutchman Ed Schroeder, who was also responsible for the Rebell 5.0, MMIV, Polgar and Risc modules and several other Mephisto machines. The MMV has a current Wiki rating of 1974 Elo. The modules for sale with the board are in very good fully working condition.

The board is the later Chinese type. It suffers from the usual stiff drawer, which in this case has caused a  rivet on the drawer release mechanism to give way. So more care is required when pulling out the drawer. Otherwise the board is in very good condition.

It comes with the original chess pieces and manual in English and German, box and styrofoam packaging and power adaptor.

    Saitek Renaissance

This otherwise excellent Renaissance board has a faulty LCD chessboard display.

You can see from the photographs that at full contrast all of the LCD segments are displayed. At part contrast the display is corrupted and flickers.

The board itself works fine in playing a game of chess, and as far as I am aware it functions normally apart from the display. So it is a bit like playing a Saitek Leonardo or Galileo, neither of which has a display.

The board is offered for sale as it is with the original chess pieces and a copy manual in English or German.

Novag Chess Champion Mark II(b)

Novag Chess Champion II(b) 1 25 x 25

The Novag Chess Champion Mark II was released in two versions. The first was laid out horizontally, like the Mark I, and this one is laid out vertically. The II(b) seems to be the more sought after of the two and fetches higher prices on eBay.

This Mark II (b) is in very good condition and is working correctly, though like all the ones I have seen it is a little temperamental as to the power supply and correct key presses.

It comes with the Karpov box, copy manual and original power adaptor (Euro type).

Price  -  £20                       SOLD
