Novag Diablo

The Novag Diablo is a 16 bit machine; last in a line of high class Novag wooden auto-sensory boards which graced the chess computer scene from 1985 through to the early 90s. It has a current Wiki rating of 2043 Elo at Active chess and 2100 Elo at Tournament levels. A joy to own the Diablo has extensive features, including the possibility of linking to a Novag printer or a PC.

This Diablo is in very good condition, fairly represented in the photographs. It is functioning perfectly and comes with a set of original pieces, the box and packaging shown, the original manual in English and a power adaptor.

Rather than sell it I would prefer a swap against one of the chess computers near the top of my Wish List. Please contact me if you have an idea for a fair swap.

SciSys Courier V

The Courier V is a very rare version of the SciSys Travel Mate II. Few have found their way into collections and only two have appeared on eBay. They were distributed mainly or exclusively in France.

This one is in good fully working condition. It is in fact the one shown in the Rare and SciSys sections of the website where you will find some more photos (link). It comes with a copy of the manual (in French).

Mephisto Nigel Short

You can read about the Mephisto Nigel Short in the ‘Rare’ section of the website. It was only distributed in the UK and is very rarely found anywhere else.

It has only recently been added to the Schachcomputer.info Wiki Active Chess rating list with a current rating of 2037 Elo. Selective Search has it on 1969 Elo.

This one is in very good condition and is functioning perfectly, apart from a lack of sound. Included in this offer is a copy manual in English, the original piece sets you see, the box and packaging.

This is a genuine Mephisto Nigel Short with accessories, not to be confused with the modified Mephisto Milanos sold recently on eBay.

Saitek Galileo

The item for sale consists of the Galileo board, set of original chess pieces with their wooden box, original manual (English, German, French and Dutch) and power adaptor. There is no additional program module, so the Galileo plays with the internal standard program currently rated at 1729 Elo by Selective Search. The chess computer is fully functional and in good condition, apart from some light scratches in the areas shown in the photos below.

CompuChess 1

This CompuChess machine has an important place in early chess computer history. I wrote about it in a Wiki article (see this link).

Offered is a CompuChess 1 Rev. A with the integral power supply and copy manual. The chess computer is in good condition and works well, but has one LED segment out, as shown in the photo.

Whilst not especially rare they are not seen very often for sale on eBay or elsewhere.

Novag Micro III

This one dates from 1984. An improved version of Novag’s first peg sensory portable.

In good condition and fully working. The battery compartment lid is missing but this does not affect operation as 4 x AA batteries are a tight fit. Can also be worked from an adaptor (not supplied).

Boris Diplomat

In mid 1979 the Boris Diplomat was the first portable chess computer to appear on the market. Early the next year this second (brown) version was released.

This Boris Diplomat II comes with the original chess pieces and manual shown. It works from 6 x AA batteries (not supplied) and is in very good condition and perfect working order..

One of the strongest chess computers around when it first appeared in 1984. Currently rated 1711 on the Wiki Active Chess list.
